Earth Hour

Earth hour was observed in India on Saturday, 28th March 2009 between 8:30-9:30p.m. Earth Hour is a global event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. I guess it started in 2007.

Now, who can observe this? Residents of countries that enjoy uninteruppted electricity can participate in this since switching off lights for 1 hour to save energy out of the 8760 hrs during the year is perfectly fine. But it doesn't make any sense for someone like me residing in Puzhudhivakkam near Chennai where TNEB(Tamilnadu Electricity Board) observes Earth Hour for most of the time during the year.

So when my friend told me that in Canada the energy consumption theme is known as "Flick Off" i said here in Chennai the theme is "Fuck Off".
