The power of pain.

The story of calcutta ........

During 1713-1719.. after the death of emperor Aurangazeb, there was a puppet emperor called "Farrukhsiyar".

On august 1715, he got swelling in his groin and Dr.William Hamilton (from british East India company) treated him. In october of the same year, emperor again got some violent pain in groin and again Dr.William Hamilton treated him successfully.

Doctor was rewarded with many personal gifts like elephants, horses etc.
But most important gift was the permission to East India company to purchase 38 villages around calcutta. This grant was instrumental in the setting up of business and colonisation of Bengal, later to be followed by the rest of India, by British East India Company.
